Upgrading your Cooktop, Upgrade your Health

Since researching Induction Cooking Upgrades, I’ve been researching the health impacts of cooking with gas. I recently completed some studies on Net Zero Building and the conversation is squarely on economic and environmental factors. Upgrading to electric or induction cooking is the way that the Victorian Government would like us to head. There are other impacts of staying on gas we don’t necessarily see directly. That is our health and the health of our families.

Numerous studies by RMIT, University of Melbourne and published by the National Asthma Council of Australia cite that 12% of childhood asthma is attributed to gas cooking in the home.

In some cases the benefits of electrification are felt immediately by people who suffer from asthma and respiratory conditions. The indoor air quality in the home is noticeably cleaner. Add that to the reduction in the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning from gas stoves, ovens and heaters and you have a healthier home for all.
